The AMEAL project: supporting post-earthquake economic recovery in the Al Haouz regions
Following the earthquake that hit Morocco in September 2023, the AMEAL (Avenir Meilleur pour l’Entrepreneuriat et l’Apprentissage) project, led by IECD Maroc in partnership with Care Maroc and IECD France, aims to support economic and educational recovery in the province of Al Haouz.
More specifically, the project aims to :
- Revive and develop economic activity, specifically by supporting women in their entrepreneurial endeavours;
- Restore pre-school education for children aged 3 to 6, in order to reduce the number of children dropping out of school and enable parents, and especially mothers, to play an active role in economic recovery. The construction of 10 pre-school units will also provide extracurricular activities (art, reading, sports) to help children express themselves and overcome their traumas.
- Strengthen the entrepreneurial fabric by developing the capacities of internal support staff and external partners.
The project incorporates cross-functional psycho-social support that benefits both the entrepreneurs and the pre-school teachers on the front line in assisting the children.
